PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION OF THE PHONOAUDIOLOGIST WITH THE OLDER ADULT POPULATION: LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract
The Phonoaudiologist is a professional who works with communication and its disorders and plays an important role in working with old people.
Aim: This literature review describes the scope of this professional practices and service delivery.
Method: A systematic research of electronic databases was undertaken. SCIELO, EBSCO, ELSEVIER, REDALYC, ONELIBRARY, JOURNAL and PUBMED were the electronic databases used in this review and sixty- five articles were analyzed.
Results: The report shows: a) language, swallowing and hearing disorders are the most studied topics within the older population; b) therapeutic work for neurological disorders is the focused of the studies; and c) health care is the most studied work setting.
Discussion: This report suggests to develop studies in others work setting different to health care because there are many old adults without neurological disorders who live at their homes or at geriatric places that need to improve their communicative skills.
