APPLICATION OF NEURO FASCIAL TAPING IN THE TREATMENT OF ORAL DYSFUNCTIONS RELATED TO PATHOLOGIES OF OCCLUSION
Main Article Content
Abstract
Rehabilitation of oral functions is a treatment linked to the application of techniques aimed at regaining lost abilities and recovering a balanced and healthy state. As therapeutic methodology was implemented the use of kinesio taping technique, that uses elastic bands that stretch the skin and generate “convolutions” with the resulting increase in interstitial space, stimulating somatosensory system receptors, allowing -through different mechanisms of action- neuromuscular re-education, increased blood flow, lymphatic drainage, decreased inflammation and pain 1, 2,3. The objective is to study the advantages of elastic adhesive dressing in the resolution of functional problems in orthodontic and orthodontic-surgical patients. Four orthodontic patients and one orthodontic-surgical patient were treated with elastic bandages (muscular technique) for the purpose of rehabilitating breathing and swallowing functions. In one patient, the anti-inflammatory technique was first applied, due to recent orthognathic surgery. The results were evaluated statically and dynamically, photos were taken before, during and after treatment, and patient evaluation questionnaires were performed. Edema had a rapid resolution, and in the treatment of oral dysfunctions significant progress was observed in breathing and functional swallowing.
