Main Article Content
Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES. In the process of acquisition and development of language, games not only stimulate the children, also act as models of functioning. The focus on the parents knowledge as a point of intervention is important because knowledge about child development is related to their practices and behaviors. The objective is to explore the parents knowledge about the importance of the game in the development of language.
MATERIAL AND METHODS. A survey was prepared and answered by 100 parents of children between 1 and 6 years who attended the phonoaudiological consultation for the first time.
RESULTS. The parents answered that the game is useful to develop intelligence 60 times, for fun (58), to develop creativity (53), to develop language (52) and to socialize (49). In relation to the types of games that parents play with their children, they were exercise games 61 times, building games 60 times, games ruled 37 times and symbolic games 19 times.
CONCLUSIONS. It is important to promote the parents knowledge about the importance of the game in the development of language in early consultations, with the aim of optimizing the children development, especially prioritizing symbolic games, as these create a space where interact thought, language and fantasy. Children can play alone, but it is more important for their development that they perform a social play activity.
